Vic Farrow started his vegetable garden in March, but when I visited him May 17 it was clearly already a winner. Check out my slide show of pictures I took as Vic showed me his cucumbers, cantaloupe, leaf lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and much more.
Vic, who lives on Suzanne Drive, said this isn’t his first garden, but its the first time at his new Gatlinburg address. To loosen the soil and get ready for planting he rented a tiller from Gaddy’s Hardware. Vic believes that having your own compost pile is really important to improving soil nutrients, but not difficult at all to build. He just dug a whole in the ground and started mixing grass clippings, table scraps, and yard dirt. His gardening advice is to start with easy steps first and not over do it. Your garden can evolve over time as you experiment with new plants and vegetable varieties. With our recent rains, Vic’s garden is really growing. He already has fresh lettuce and cucumbers for salads.
If you have a question for Vic, ask him at an upcoming Gatlinburg Get Together or write a question/comment below.
